Profile

Dr. Oliver S. Hartmann advises clients across all areas of intellectual property law as well as copyright and media law. His practice focuses in particular on copyright and design law, personality and press law, as well as trademark and competition law. As a Rechtsanwalt, Fachanwalt für Urheber- und Medienrecht (specialist lawyer for copyright and media law), mediator and Solicitor (England & Wales), he combines specialist legal expertise with an international outlook.

He regularly represents authors of literary and musical works, music publishers and labels, influencers and public figures, and companies seeking to protect their designs, trademarks and inventions. He advises on the protection and licensing of intellectual property as well as on out-of-court and in-court enforcement.

A further focus of his practice is Indian law. Drawing on his doctoral thesis on Indian trademark law and a research stay in Mumbai, he advises clients on the legal framework for market entry and business operations in India.

Dr. Hartmann is a Cooperation Partner¹ at IPM Law and a regularly consulted and experienced external adviser on national and international matters relating to the protection of intellectual property and related legal issues.

Education

Dr. Hartmann studied law at the Humboldt University of Berlin. As part of his doctoral research, he completed a research stay at the University of Mumbai and a postgraduate diploma course in alternative dispute resolution at Kishinchand Chellaram Law College in Mumbai. He was awarded his doctorate (Dr. jur.) with the distinction summa cum laude. He subsequently obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Intellectual Property and Media Law and qualified as a Solicitor (England & Wales). He completed the specialist lawyer courses for industrial property law and for copyright and media law, each with the grade "sehr gut" (distinction). He is a Fachanwalt für Urheber- und Medienrecht (specialist lawyer for copyright and media law).

Teaching & Speaking

Dr. Hartmann is regularly invited to speak on intellectual property law, media law, and German-Indian legal relations. He has spoken at, among others, CeBIT, the Forum Institut für Management, the BayPatentallianz, the Global IP Convention, Innovationship, and the PAFA conference.
