Julius Grimm, LL.M.
Member of the Bar (Germany)
Solicitor (Ireland)
Solicitor (England & Wales)
Profile
Julius advises clients across all areas of intellectual property law as well as media & entertainment law. His practice focuses in particular on brand and reputation protection, content licensing, and the enforcement of copyright. He is admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales and in Ireland, and is also a member of the Bar in Germany.
As the managing director of a music licensing company, Julius gained several years of leadership experience in the licensing and exploitation of intellectual property. He oversaw license agreements with social media platforms, streaming services, and collective management organisations, and was responsible for implementing complex licensing models at scale. He is also the co-founder of a legal-tech company specialising in the automated identification of copyright and trademark infringements online. Before founding his law firm, he led the product development of this technology and created systems capable of large-scale detection and enforcement of infringements for major media companies, financial institutions, and public figures.
Drawing on this background and his earlier work as a software developer, Julius approaches legal matters with an interdisciplinary perspective. In addition to legal considerations, he incorporates the technical, operational, and commercial factors that determine his clients' success. He develops scalable and economically viable solutions to complex legal issues—from negotiating and drafting contracts to advising on licensing strategies and pursuing effective out-of-court and in-court enforcement.
Education
Julius studied intellectual property law and data protection law in Dresden (TU Dresden) and London (Queen Mary University of London). During his studies, he worked for a law firm specialised in copyright and media law and completed the Intellectual Property Intensive Programme of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). He also holds a degree in business administration.
Teaching
Julius is a frequent guest speaker and lecturer on IP law, music licensing, and entrepreneurship, including at University College London (UCL) and Dresden University of Technology (TUD).
